                      Setting Non-sticky Properties

                      Non-sticky parameters allow a uniform conversion of all text in a subexpression. The way they do this is by inserting an <mstyle> tag around the part of the equation you have selected. This tag is almost completely invisible to the user, but holds the style information for the nodes inside. You can insert an mstyle by Inserting a Style Change from the Insert > Layouts menu (Windows shortcut is Ctrl+Y ) or the Layout Templates palette.

                      Non-sticky properties can be set in one of two ways. First, they can be set the same way as sticky parameters above. However, the final radio button should be changed from 'Apply to each token element in selection' to 'Set as defaults for selected expression'. Second, they can be set through the Layout Properties panel of the Properties menu.

                      Caution

                      Note not all options in the Layout Properties dialog are available for all expressions. Availability depends on the MathML elements within the expression within the <mstyle>.

                      Layout in Display Style

                      This property specifies how the mathematics in the equation is rendered. Leave this as 'automatic' unless you are familiar with display styles.

                      Script Level

                      This property controls the size of the equation. Script Level and Display Style work together to shrink certain parts of the equation (such as fractions and scripts) in order to make it more readable.

                      Foreground Color and Background Color

                      These two properties take RGB color values. These values are three pairs of hexadecimal digits (for example #5599dd) which define proportions of red, green and blue on a scale of 00 through ff (not case-sensitive). Certain named color values can also be used (aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, and yellow).

                      Fraction Line Thickness

                      This property controls the thickness of the horizontal bar between the numerator and denominator in a fraction. This can either be a numerical value with a unit as described above, or any of the keywords: 'thin', 'medium' or 'thick'. This value can only be set if the subexpression you've highlighted contains a fraction.

                      Treat Underscript as Accent and Treat Overscript as Accent

                      These properties are simple true/false values that can only be set if you have used an overscript or underscript. Setting these values specifies how the overscript or underscript appears. Don't change this unless you are familiar with accents as overscripts or underscripts.

                      Beveled

                      This property only applies to fraction templates (<mfrac>), and controls the linear orientation of the fraction. The default setting is "Automatic." Value may be set to "True" or "False."

                      Numerator Alignment

                      This property only applies to fraction templates (<mfrac>), and controls the alignment of the numerator with respect to the vertical axis. The default setting is "Center." Value may also be set to "Left" or "Right."

                      Denominator Alignment

                      This property only applies to fraction templates (<mfrac>), and controls the alignment of the denominator with respect to the vertical axis. The default setting is "Center." Value may also be set to "Left" or "Right."
