Issue
Note
There is more than one possible cause for this error. If you have not assigned a keyboard shortcut to launch MathType 7 from Word, see our other article that addresses this error.
The possible cause for this error that's covered in this article is you've assigned a shortcut key in Word to launch MathType, but when you use the shortcut key, you get this error:
Reason
When you created the shortcut in Word, you applied the shortcut to the wrong macro.
Solution
- Open Word's Customize Keyboard dialogue as before. If you're unsure how to do this, click Word's File tab, then Options, Customize Ribbon (if you're not using a recent version of Word, the location for this may be slightly different but should be similar). Near the bottom left of the dialogue, click Keyboard shortcuts: Customize…
- In the Customize Keyboard dialogue, choose Categories: Macros. In the Commands list on the right, choose MTCommand_InsertEqn:
- Notice there's already a shortcut assigned: Alt+Ctrl+Q . It won't hurt anything to leave that one assigned. Click in the Press new shortcut key entry box and press the key you want. Note: Do not type
ctrlfor the Ctrl key, etc. Simply press the key. - Click Assign, and click Close.
