                    Previewing a question

                    Reading time: 1min

                    Why preview a question?

Before assigning a question to students, it's important to preview it to ensure everything works as expected. Previewing allows you to:

                    • Verify the answer setup: Ensure that the correct answers are well defined.
                    • Check evaluation settings: Confirm that the grading behaves as expected based on the configured settings. This includes aspects like allowing or restricting simplifications, decimal tolerance, and other evaluation criteria.
                    • Test feedback delivery: Make sure students receive the appropriate feedback for different responses.
                    • Review randomization: If your question includes random variables, previewing helps you see how different versions of the question are generated. Are the values aligned with your expectations?

                    How to preview a question

Note: The preview mode is not the same as the student view. It is a tool to test and refine your question before students see it.

You can preview a question in two ways:

                    1. From the question list: In the question list view, select the question you want to preview and click on the preview option button.

                    1. From the question editor: While editing a question, you can find the preview option button at the right side of the screen.

                    Preview question interface

When you enter the preview mode, you will see:

                    • The question statement: Displayed exactly as it will appear to students.
                    • An answer input box or a list of choices: Depending on the question type, you will either see:
                      • A math box where you can manually enter a response.
                      • A set of answer choices where you can click on the correct option.
                    • A “Regenerate” button: Useful for questions with random variables, allowing you to generate different versions of the questions.
                    • An “Evaluate” button: Submits the answer and displays the feedback that students would receive based on their response.

Tip: Use the “Regenerate” button multiple times to ensure that all randomized values behave as expected.
