Arabic locale support
Reading time: 1minThis article describes how MathType handles Arabic mathematical notation across supported Arabic-speaking regions. It documents the locale codes, formula mirroring behavior, and numeral systems used by default for each locale.
Requirements/Prerequisites:
- MathType Web or a MathType integration.
- An Arabic locale configured in the browser, platform, or user profile.
Concepts:
- Formula mirroring: Displays formulas from right to left.
- Arabic-European numerals: Uses 0–9 (1234...).
- Arabic-Indic numerals: Uses Arabic numeral symbols (١٢٣٤...).
- Locale code: Language and regional identifier used by MathType to determine default behavior.
Reference details
For the generic Arabic locale (ar), MathType uses mirrored formulas and Arabic-European numerals by default.
The following examples illustrate the supported notation styles:
- Mirrored formula with Arabic-European numerals
- Mirrored formula with Arabic-Indic numerals
- Non-mirrored formula with Arabic-European numerals
