                      Arabic locale support

                      Reading time: 1min

This article describes how MathType handles Arabic mathematical notation across supported Arabic-speaking regions. It documents the locale codes, formula mirroring behavior, and numeral systems used by default for each locale.

                      Requirements/Prerequisites:

                      • MathType Web or a MathType integration.
                      • An Arabic locale configured in the browser, platform, or user profile.

                      Concepts:

                      • Formula mirroring: Displays formulas from right to left.
                      • Arabic-European numerals: Uses 0–9 (1234...).
                      • Arabic-Indic numerals: Uses Arabic numeral symbols (١٢٣٤...).
                      • Locale code: Language and regional identifier used by MathType to determine default behavior.

                      Reference details

For the generic Arabic locale (ar), MathType uses mirrored formulas and Arabic-European numerals by default.

The following examples illustrate the supported notation styles:

                      • Mirrored formula with Arabic-European numerals
                         Example of arabic european numbers
                      • Mirrored formula with Arabic-Indic numerals
                        Example of Arabic-indi numbers
                      • Non-mirrored formula with Arabic-European numerals
                        Non-mirrored formula with Arabic-European numerals

                      Supported Arabic locales

The following table shows the default MathType behavior for each supported Arabic locale.
